Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can expect finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
